Összefoglaló

ABSTRACT 

Finishing schools and obtaining qualifications or professions at school is prerequisite for the individual's advancement in life and social usefulness in knowledge-based societies. Education plays a fundamental role in personal and social development, and in reducing unemployment and social exclusion. A strong correlation can be shown between early school leaving and social repression. The member states of the European Union have been fighting with the problem of early school leaving for many years with more or less success. This paper attempts to provide an outlook outside the EU, namely on Canadian education policy in this area and the best practices in the fight against early school leaving and school dropout.

ÖSSZEFOGLALÓ Az iskolák befejezése, az iskolai végzettség vagy szakma megszerzése előfeltétele az egyén életben való előrehaladásának és társadalmi hasznosságának a tudásalapú társadalmakban. Az oktatás alapvető szerepet játszik a személyes és társadalmi fejlődésben, valamint a munkanélküliség és a társadalmi kirekesztés csökkentésében. Erős összefüggés mutatható ki a korai iskolaelhagyás és a társadalmi elnyomás között is. Az Európai Unió tagállamai több-kevesebb sikerrel évek óta küzdenek a korai iskolaelhagyás, a lemorzsolódás problémájával. Ez a tanulmány megpróbál kitekintést adni az EU-n kívülre, és egyfajta képet adni nevezetesen az e terültre vonatkozó kanadai oktatáspolitikáról, a korai iskolaelhagyás és iskolai lemorzsolódás elleni küzdelem bevált gyakorlatáról.
